Katy to be home to new engineering center, one of six in the world

Pepperl+Fuchs broke ground on a new 110,000-square-foot engineering and distribution center on June 2.

The Germany-based company, which has its North American headquarters in Twinsburg, Ohio, will build its signature Solutions Engineering Center on the site located in the West Ten Business Park. The new building will replace an existing 20,000-square-foot property in the park.

Lance LaCour, Katy Area Economic Development Council president and CEO, said in a statement that the new facility will create 100 jobs and $25 million in capital investment.

"Katy Area Economic Development Council has worked with Pepperl+Fuchs since January 2014 by providing site selection, technical and incentives assistance," LaCour said in a statement. "We are thrilled Pepperl+Fuchs is locating its new distribution center and regional headquarters in the Katy area."

Construction is slated to be completed in the spring of 2017. The Solutions Engineering Center in Houston will be one of six in the world, with others in England, Germany, Singapore, Australia and Ohio.

Pepperl+Fuchs, which focuses on electrical explosion, sensor and automation technology, will assemble and deliver customized equipment from the new center. The equipment will be geared toward creating on-site solutions for process automation in hazardous locations, such as oil refineries, pharmaceutical facilities and other manufacturing facilities.

The company opened its first Houston office in 2008. At the time it had eight full-time employees and a training facility for its process automation division.
